Flower Festival in Madeira
The Flower Festival Parade is by far one of the most beautiful parades in the world!
Dance groups fill their floats with flowers, dress their participants in beautiful and imaginative costumes, play and dance to traditional music while thousands of people, locals and tourist line the streets in hopes to get a good spot to watch the parade.
On the eve of the Flower Festival, school children meet at the City Hall Square (Praça do Município) to build the 'wall of hope "(Muro da Esperanca). This wall is made up of flowers, mostly endemic, brought by each child. Some of the flowers include birds of paradise, orchid, roses and camelias.
A Wonderland of Flowers
On one of the main sidewalks in Funchal, located on the Avenida Arriaga, people get down on their knees with many flowers surrounding them and get to work, decorating and creating a carpet of flowers, some of which are true pieces or art.
